| "Prize winning piece which is made of four different metals and two stones" describes this Los Castillo pin in MEXICAN JEWELRY by Davis & Pack, p.188. It also appears on p.187 in WILLIAM SPRATLING and the MEXICAN SILVER RENAISSANCE as "Los Castillo, prize-winning cubist parrot broach". This famous pin was made in Mexico, c.1947. The metals are sterling, brass, copper, and, perhaps pewter. The stones used are black onyx and malachite in matrix. The piece is backed in silver and is marked "LOS CASTILLO TAXCO MADE IN MEXICO 63 belllmark 15" and can be worn as a pin or a pendant. It measures 1 5/8" square and is in excellent condition.
