Wonderful 14k gold ring constructed around a 19th century shell cameo by ED WIENER, NYC, c.1960. Made of very heavy gauge gold(weighs 10dwt=1/2 troy oz.), it is size 7. Ed Wiener would take a special cameo, stone, enamel piece, etc and build a ring or brooch around it. The beautiful textured gold work sets off the inset cameo. Rare and glorious earrings by Ed Wiener, c.1968. During this period, Ed wanted a richer color, so increased the carat from 14 to 18 carat. He also started using lost wax techniques for a very rich texture. He had become involved with the beauty of very early gold work of the 8th century, hence changed his body of gold work from his earlier period.
